Warehouse LED Lighting Solutions

, ,

Warehouse and Logistics News sat down with Saima Shafi, Sales and Marketing Director, at Goodlight to discuss the latest solutions in LED lighting for warehouses and factories.

What are your best-known LED solutions?

The company was founded in 2006, when LED technology was relatively unknown, with a focus on retrofit LED lamps which included PL, PL-L, SON, T8 and T5 Tubes along with our award-winning 2D LED Lamps with Emergency Battery Back-up option. At this time, against a backdrop of steeply increasing energy prices, retrofit solutions were extremely popular as a fast, and low-cost way to provide extreme energy savings whilst retaining similar levels of light with LED.

Naturally over time, whilst LED technology has been maturing, its performance has also improved so it is able to deliver much more efficient lighting performance. Over the last 13 years, we have continually developed our product range and concentrated on high-performance, efficient LED luminaires which are in a class of their own. The GX1 LED High Bay was the first high bay to include Phase Change Copper Cooling Technology, whilst our G360 LED SON Lamp was the first lamp to include Magnetic Fan Levitation Technology, plus when in operation, it is the quietest lamp on the market.

Our products are well-engineered, deliver impressive light outputs and stand the test of time – with many installations exceeding over 5 years. Other popular LED lights include our range of LED Battens, LED High and Low Bays, LED Panels and Architectural LED Downlights.

Over the past year and a half, we have integrated Goodlight LED luminaires with our SMART Wireless Lighting Control solution, Light Boss, for the ultimate control system. The Light Boss Wireless Lighting Control platform allows warehouse, facility and building managers to monitor, automate, control and report on their lighting, wirelessly, anytime and anywhere. Light Boss can be connected to multiple buildings both nationwide and globally and can instantly report on lighting faults (if any). Light Boss can dim down the lighting in certain areas of a warehouse that are not used (or in sufficient natural light), providing ample lighting when presence is detected to ensure a safe, working environment. Unlike other SMART lighting systems on the market, Light Boss can be installed into existing buildings and new builds with ease (retrofittable).

Which industry sectors are your customers in and which ones are growing fast?

We have many customers in the commercial, industrial, retail, leisure, transportation and amenity industries – including blue chip corporates to small companies. Our customers include Bentley, British Airways, Excel London, Heathrow Airport, HS1, Jaguar Land Rover, Network Rail, the NHS, Transport for London, Pets At Home and Quorn Foods – to name a few!

This year, we have started to see more customers within the warehouse and industrial sectors wanting to upgrade their existing lighting to energy-efficient LED solutions which can be coupled with wireless lighting control, the cost saving benefits can be tremendous! More importantly, with LED leasing schemes like Bright Plan, the new LED lighting upgrade can be fully funded by the energy savings, alone, so there is no upfront cost!

What are your most recent product innovations?

Our latest Goodlight luiminaires include our industrial, rugged range of LED Battens which replace fluorescent tubes and anti-corrosive battens and our high-performance LED High Bays which are suitable upgrade solutions to metal halide and sodium alternatives. This new range of LED luminaires have been specifically designed for the warehouse and manufacturing industries, offering cost-effective, bright alternatives for busy warehouses, loading bays, manufacturing plants, production and assembly lines, storage facilities and more. All of our warehouse LED lighting solutionsHigh Bays, Low Bays, Battens, Bulkheads and Floodlights are compatible with Light Boss Wireless Lighting Control offering incredible energy savings of up to 95% – all backed by a 50,000 hour lifespan and 5 year guarantee.

What are the major trends and developments affecting your category and your customers, and how are you responding?

We have become renowned for LED lighting and control solutions – where customers face challenges in their sites – we are able to respond with bespoke, manufactured solutions that overcome issues, with quick turnaround times e.g. dual colour lighting fixtures that help users see better in dark environments, LED lighting units running off generators or Low Voltage systems or DALI and other dimmable solutions for lamps that are rarely catered for by other lighting manufacturers. The major trends in our industry are for low grade, one-size-fits-all lighting solutions which are fine for some environments but not able to deliver precise high-performance lighting for specialist, engineering environments, or lighting at extreme heights, or where units are installed in hazardous or hard-to-reach areas. We are responding by manufacturing more LED options for niche, specialist requirements and developing our range for specific areas such as manufacturing, warehousing, retail, offshore etc.

Can you tell us about any recent customer contracts and how you helped the customer meet their challenges?

More recently, we worked with FWB, a supply chain partner, to replace all their fluorescent lighting throughout their sites nationwide. A total of 8,200 sq. meters of warehousing, trade counters and offices have now been upgraded to Goodlight Linear LED High Bays, Battens and Ceiling Panels.

FWB‘s original fluorescent lighting was a burden to their maintenance teams as they constantly changing failing fluorescent lights which proved difficult in their warehouses as they have very high ceilings. After seeing Goodlight LED lighting within other customer sites, FWB decided to upgrade their existing lighting to reduce their energy and maintenance overheads and to improve the light quality for staff and visitors. The added health and safety benefits was another factor and since installation, FWB are achieving an impressive 70% in energy savings with consistent light levels throughout their sites, resulting in excellent illumination, providing a safer, working environment in their busy warehouses, trade counters and offices.

How does business in 2019 compare to previous years? What’s your strategy for succeeding in the current climate?

When coupled with our extensive range of spot, linear and wide area High and Low Bay LED lighting – ideal for busy warehouses, logistics and engineering environments, customers can enjoy savings of 70-90% over traditional halogen, metal halide and even induction light sources. Without requiring any additional wiring, the wireless solution provides much greater value and takes our customers into a truly digital age when lighting their building – it provides the ultimate in energy efficiency.
