Goodlight Joins Forces With DIY SOS For Veterans Big Build

LED Eco Lights has donated hundreds of Goodlight LED lighting products to support the construction of specially-adapted homes for military veterans in Manchester. This ambitious project is being undertaken by the popular DIY SOS team, headed up by Nick Knowles, and will be featured in two 60-minute episodes entitled The Big Build, Veterans Special.

As the biggest DIY SOS venture ever filmed, the project is fully supported by Manchester City Council and will see the renovation of seven dilapidated homes to create three much needed homes for veterans and their families. The work will also involve the creation of a Walking With The Wounded advice centre which will offer training, counselling and therapy to veterans who have been mentally and physically injured while serving their country. This facility has been conceived to enable veterans to return to work and provide long-term security for themselves and their families.

Centred upon Canada Street and New Street in Manchester, The Big Build, Veterans Special will also highlight the face lifting of 62 properties to greatly improve the lives of existing tenants and owners. These properties have been gifted to Haig Housing which is a well know association that runs housing schemes specifically for veterans.

“We were delighted to be approached for this ground-breaking programming of DIY SOS: The Big Build in support of veterans and their families.  Our Goodlight LED lamps and luminaires have been donated to the veteran family homes, to provide the ultimate in energy efficient lighting,” says Saima Shafi, Marketing Director at LED Eco Lights. “To play our part in an initiative that aims to provide veterans and their families with the opportunity to kick start their lives and look forward to a secure and bright future is a real privilege.”

The two episodes of DIY SOS: The Big Build, Veterans Special will be screened on BBC One at 8.00pm on Wednesday 14th October and Wednesday 21st October.
